I recently planned a post about the best casino games. And I wanted to follow up with a post covering three terrible casino games not to play.
Here are three casino games I don’t recommend playing:
- Progressive slot machines
- Keno games
- Double zero roulette
All three games are bad, but progressive slots and keno are worse than double zero roulette. But double zero roulette shouldn’t exist. And I explain why in this post.
All casino games are hard to beat. But the three covered in this post are practically impossible to beat. Keep reading to find out why they’re impossible to beat.
1 – Progressive Slot Machine Games
Slot machines are terrible games for gamblers. But progressive slot machine games are worse than regular slots.
You should use the house edge of casino games to determine the best and worst games. Slot machine games have a higher house edge than most other games in the casino. The house edge for slots games varies from machine to machine and from casino to casino. But the average slot machine house edge comes in around 10%.
So, why are progressive slot machines worse than other slots games?
Every penny you run through a slot machine gets split into two parts. One part goes to the profit for the casino and the other gets paid back in wins over time.
But when you play progressive slot machines, every penny gets split into three parts. One part goes to profit for the casino, one part gets paid back over time, and the third part funds the progressive jackpot.
On the other hand, if you’re planning to lose all of your money playing slots, you might as well play progressive slot machine games. You have to get lucky to win playing slots. Almost every slots player loses more than they win.
You have to get extremely lucky to win a progressive jackpot. But if you’re willing to make a huge gamble and risk everything in your bankroll for the chance to win big, go ahead and lose it all chasing a progressive jackpot.
2 – Keno Games
I mentioned that slot machine games are some of the worst casino options because of the house edge. Keno games almost always have a worse house edge than slot machine games.
Keno games are a lot like lottery games. In fact, many gamblers include keno in the lottery category.
Most keno games have a house edge of a minimum of 20%. And many keno games have a house edge of 25% to 35%.
To understand how bad the house edge hurts you, consider an example.
If you bet $500 on a keno game with a 25% house edge, your expected loss is $125. To put this in perspective, your expected loss for the same amount of bets playing a decent blackjack game comes in under $5.
Keno games are cheap to play. And you have a chance to win a lot if you get lucky. Most keno games have a top prize of at least $10,000. And some pay $100,000 or more. But the big house edge makes them a terrible choice for casino gamblers.
3 – Double Zero Roulette
Double zero roulette games aren’t as bad as slot machine games and keno games. But they’re still bad options and should be avoided.
Double zero roulette games have a 5.26% house edge. While it’s much better than slots and keno games, you still shouldn’t play double zero roulette games.
Why does double zero roulette deserve a spot on this list of casino games never to play?
Single zero roulette has a 2.7% house edge. And French rules roulette wheels have bets with a house edge of 1.35%.
So if you play on a double zero roulette wheel, you’re giving the casino money you don’t have to give them. When you see a double zero roulette wheel, keep on walking.
Conclusion
Slot machines are bad for casino gamblers. But progressive slots games can be even worse. Keno games have a big house edge, so they drain your bankroll faster than most other casino games. Double zero roulette doesn’t have a huge house edge like slots and keno, but there are better options.
Instead of playing the three terrible casino games on this list, play blackjack, baccarat, or craps. They all offer bets with a lower house edge. And a lower house edge means you have a better shot at winning and your bankroll lasts longer.
